"The practice of art isn't to make a living.  It's to make your soul grow. "

Following my curiosity and a recurring dream about melted crayons I enrolled in an encaustic class at my local art center.  I was instantly obsessed with the myriad of possibilities encaustic afforded. It was a natural conclusion to incorporate my training in Acupuncture, Eastern Philosophy and Intuition into my artwork.  Encaustic in its versatility allows me to express my unique vision of how the natural elements of fire, earth, metal, water and wood play together, contrast and harmonize.  It is theorize in Eastern philosophy that within all things there is Yin and Yang as well as aspects of the Five Elements.  In my primary media of encaustic the Water Element is represented by wax, the Wood Element is the substrate upon which the encaustic adheres, the Fire Element is represented by the blowtorch used to manipulate the wax, , the Earth Element is represented by the natural origins of beeswax, damar resin and pigment, while the Metal Element is represented in the tools used to form the piece.  Combining the virtues of five elemental theory, the beauty and adaptability of encaustic and encaustic techniques my art is able to convey to the world my passion and fascination with both eastern and art worlds.
